Terms of Use
These terms cover using orbitcount.com and putting the OrbitCount counter or globe on your website. They're written to be read. OrbitCount is run by one person in British Columbia, Canada ("I" or "OrbitCount" below).
1. Using OrbitCount
OrbitCount is free to use. By creating an account or adding the OrbitCount code to a website, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use OrbitCount.
You must be at least 13 to create an account, and old enough where you live to agree to these terms.
2. Your account
- Use a real email address you can receive mail at.
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- Let me know at hello@orbitcount.com if you think someone else has got into it.
3. Websites you add
- Only add websites you own or are allowed to manage.
- Don't use OrbitCount on websites that are illegal, or that promote hatred, harassment, malware, scams or the exploitation of anyone.
- Don't try to fake or inflate visitor numbers, overload the service, get around its limits, or interfere with other people's counters.
- Your globe page and visitor totals are public. Don't add a website if that's a problem for you.
I can remove a website or close an account that breaks these rules, usually after an email first unless the problem is serious.
4. The counter and globe code
You may use the OrbitCount code on your websites for as long as you have an account. Please don't copy, resell or present OrbitCount as your own service. The free version shows a small “by OrbitCount” credit, which should stay unless you've used brand removal.
5. Brand removal donations
- Brand removal is a voluntary, one-time donation of at least CA$2 through Ko-fi, made with your account's brand removal code.
- It removes the OrbitCount credit from the counters and globes of every website on your account, including websites you add later, for as long as OrbitCount runs. It belongs to your account and can't be moved to someone else's.
- There are no subscriptions or renewals.
- If you forgot the code or used the wrong one, email me and I'll attach the donation to the right account.
- Because it's a donation, it isn't normally refundable. If something went wrong, write to me within 14 days and I'll make it right.
6. No guarantees
OrbitCount is a small, early-access service provided “as is”. I work hard to keep it running and accurate, but I can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that counts and locations will be exact. Visitor locations come from an IP database and are approximate. Ad blockers and privacy tools may stop some visits being counted.
I may change features, or stop the service. If OrbitCount ever shuts down, I'll give account holders at least 30 days' notice by email where I reasonably can.
7. Limits on responsibility
To the extent the law allows, OrbitCount isn't responsible for indirect losses, lost profits, or data loss resulting from using or not being able to use the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that can't be limited by law.
8. Ending things
You can remove your websites at any time from your dashboard, and delete your whole account yourself on your Account page (or ask me to by emailing hello@orbitcount.com). Remove the OrbitCount code from your pages too, since it will stop working once the website is deleted.
9. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and important changes will be emailed to account holders. Continuing to use OrbitCount after that means you accept the new terms.
10. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
